Nord Stream 2 AG says aware of new US sanctions

MOSCOW, Oct 21 (PRIME) -- Nord Stream 2 AG, the operator of Russia-led Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline project, said on Wednesday that it is aware of the new U.S. sanctions against the pipeline, but cannot comment on potential consequences.

“We are aware of the new recommendations for the PEESA law published by the U.S. Department of State on October 20, 2020. We cannot comment on their potential implications for companies supporting the project,” Nord Stream 2 AG said.

“Any threats of sanctions aimed against the Nord Stream-2 project will affect a number of Western contractors and investors. If they are introduced, the sanctions will directly affect over 120 companies from more than 12 European countries.”

On Tuesday, the U.S. extended sanctions against the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline to include companies that provide services of upgrading or installment of equipment on the ships laying the pipeline.
